Cobbers Earn USTFCCA Academic Awards

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/23/20)--- The Concordia men's and women's track and field teams both earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors as well as putting several individuals on the USTFCCCA All-Academic list.

The Cobber men's team finished the year with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.28 while the women's team compiled a 3.63 team GPA which was the second highest of any team in the MIAC.

The Concordia women's team extended their impressive record of team academic honors. The Cobbers have earned the team distinction every season since head coach Marv Roeske took over the track and field program in 1995.

In order to be honored as an USTFCCCA All-Academic Team a program must have a combined team GPA of 3.10. A total of 359 teams (209 women's, 150 men's) were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA.

The highest cumulative GPA of any women's program belonged to Middlebury who finished with a 3.84 GPA while Washington Univ. (Mo.) had a 3.72 GPA to earn the top spot for the men.

Matt Bye, Jesse Middendorf, Colin Schuller and Cal Wright led the way for the men's team as they all earned the individual Scholar All-Academic honor. Josie Herrmann and Cayle Hovland were honored with the individual academic honor for the women's program.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have finished the indoor season ranked among the Top 50 individuals in an event or have been a part of a relay team that was ranked in the Top 35.
