Track Crew Leads Charge At MIAC Meet

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/24/18)---Concordia's track athletes led the charge for the team at the 2018 MIAC Indoor Championship Meet held at Macalester. The track crew came away with 17 of the team's 27 total points as the Cobbers finished ninth at the meet.

While it was the overall track contingent that scored the most overall points for Concordia it was the Cobber pole vault corps that recorded the most team points in a single event.

Senior Eli Beachy capped his final indoor conference season by finishing second in the event with a height of 14-03.25. That was good for a tie for second place and seven team points. Beachy had three attempts to win the title but narrowly missed each time at 14-11.00. It marks the first time in his indoor career that he has earned MIAC All-Conference honors for finishing in the top 3 in an event.

Junior vaulter Sam Haley earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors by placing sixth in the event. He cleared 13-09.25 on his first try and then missed on three attempts at 14-03.25.

The only other Concordia athlete to earn All-Conference honors at the meet was junior David Supinski who ran a 1:22.03 in the 600 meters and finished in third place. It is the third straight season he has earned All-Conference or All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in the event.

Supinski also earned team points by finishing seventh in the 400 meters in a time of 50.68.

The highest scoring track event for Concordia came from the 60-meter hurdles where both Willie Julkes and Matt Bye qualified for the finals. Julkes ran an 8.72 to post the third fastest time in the prelims while Bye qualified in the No.6 spot with a mark of 8.81.

In the finals of the race Julkes crossed the line in 8.78 and finished in fifth place while Bye recorded a time of 8.89.
