Indoor Winners Continue Success Outside

ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/01/17)---The Cobber quartet of David Supinski, Matthew Lillehaugen, Willie Julkes III and Eli Beachy continued their indoor all-conference award winning ways during the outdoor season as all four post Top 10 finishes at the crowded Hamline Invitational.

Supinski, Lillehaugen and Julkes all came through with Top 10 finishes in track events while Beachy claimed his Top 10 in the pole vault.

Supinski was the only double Top 10 finisher on the day for Concordia. He was eighth in the 200 meters and then turned around and claimed third in the 400 meters. Both races had over 40 participants so the competition level was at an outdoor season high.

Supinski raced to a 22.91 in the 200 meters and his time of 49.98 in the 400 meters actually tied for second place when posted in .100 of a second. His time is a career best – marking the first time he has broken the 50-second barrier – and is the seventh fastest in school history.
 
Lillehaugen paced himself to a time of 4:01.58 in the 1500 meters. That time was good for 10th place and was only .03 of a second out of the Top 9.

Julkes was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles and just missed a Top 10 finish in the javelin. He crossed the line in a time of 16.11 in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles which was only .31 off the winning time. Julkes then headed over to the javelin area and put up a distance of 143-08 in his very first javelin competition of the season. His mark is a team best this year.

Beachy, who placed sixth at the pole vault at the MIAC indoor meet, cleared a height of 14-05.25 which was good for a tie for third place in the event with over 30 athletes competing.    

Matt Bye and Joe Hendrickson also came away with Top 10 finishes at the meet and both accomplished the feat in the 110-meter hurdles. Bye was ninth in a time of 16.27 and Hendrickson was close behind at 16.31 and finished in 10th place.

Bye also had a 10th-place finish in the high jump as he cleared 5-08.75.    

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will return to St. John's next weekend to compete in the St. John's Open on Saturday, Apr. 8. The Cobbers will also take their multi-even athletes to participate in the St. John's Decathlon over the weekend.
