A Dandy Honorable Mention Duo

  1. NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/06/16)—It wasn't the finish that Jackson Schepp wanted but in the end the Cobbers had two athletes earn All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors in the decathlon by finishing in the top 6 of the event.

Schepp started the day in first place but struggled in the two throwing events and finished in fourth place with a two-day total of 6,155 points. His final point total is still a season best for Schepp and 525 points higher than his last year's total of 5,630 points when he finished fifth in the conference decathlon.

Sophomore teammate Joe Hendrickson was right behind Schepp in fifth as he also earned honorable mention honors. Hendrickson ran the fastest time of any decathlete in the 110-meter hurdles and went on to post a total of 5,987 points. That total is up 106 points from his runner-up finish in the event in 2015.

Gabe Wright was the only other member of the Concordia multi-eventers to break into the top 10 in the final standings. He finished with a season-best total of 5,878 points and placed seventh in the event. He also improved on his score from last year when he finished third with 5,770 points.

Schepp scored over 600 points in the two running events. His best event on Day 2 was the 110-meter hurdles where he ran a 16.68 and earned 658 points. Schepp posted a season-best time in the final event of the day – the 110-meter hurdles. He crossed the line in 4:51.46 to grab 610 points. Schepp cleared 12-05.50 in the pole vault to recrd 562 points.

Hendrickson started the day by speeding to a 15.57 in the 110-meter hurdles which garnered him 782 points.  The 782 points was the second highest single-event point total of any competitor in any event at the meet.  His time of 15.57 is the fifth fastest in the MIAC this season and fastest by a Cobber athlete since the 2013 season.

Hendrickson's other 600-plus point event came in the 1500 meters where he clocked a 4:46.94.

Wright also had a tough time in the two throw events on Day 2. His best event was the 110-meter hurdles where he scored 704 points for a time of 16.26. Wright posted a season-best time in the 1500 meters when he raced to a 4:45.17 which helped him score 648 points.  Wright had 590 points in the pole vault after clearing 12-09.50.

The Cobbers had three other athletes in the event. Senior Hans-Kristof Nelson finished 11th with a total of 5,377 points while freshmen Brett Brenden and Jacob Nepstad finished in 15th and 16th place only 60 points apart from each other. Brenden had 4,355 points and Nepstad finished with 4,335 points. Kristof-Nelson's point total was a season best and almost 1,000 points more from his last year's finishing score at the meet.
