Career-Best Day At The Cobber Twilight

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/26/16)—Concordia used their team depth to come away with first place at the annual Cobber Twilight Meet. Concordia had only one event win but recorded numerous top 5 finishes to earn the victory on a damp, overcast day at Irv Christenson Track.

The Cobbers' event win came in the pole vault where CC recorded the top 5 finishes in the event. Sophomore Eli Beachy won the pole vault with a height of 13-11.25. That was six inches higher than teammates Josh Murrey and Eddie Clifton cleared 13-05.25 and finished in second and third place. Murrey's mark ties his season best height. Sam Haley and Hans-Kristof Nelson rounded out the Top 5 for CC.

Nelson also recorded a top 5 finish in the javelin. He finished fourth at 148-11which is a season best mark and pushes him into the top 20 of the MIAC. Nelson's pole vault teammate Murrey was just behind Nelson as his best throw was 148-10 and he placed fifth.

Senior Erik Bye had the other top 5 finish in the field events for Concordia. He placed fifth in the hammer throw at 141-02.

While the pole vault crew was the story of the field events for Concordia, the theme of personal bests took center stage for the track athletes. The Cobbers had over a dozen athletes record personal best times in the middle-distance and distance events.

Matthew Lillehaugen finished third in the 5000 meters with a personal best time of 15:54.87. That mark is in the top 20 of the conference this season.

Ryan Turner finished 10 seconds off of Lillehaugen's pace. He finished fifth with a time of 16:03.51. That is a season best time and in the top 30 of the conference. Turner also turned the distance double at the meet by running the 10K. He came home in a time of 36:15.17 which is also a PR and the 14th fastest in the MIAC this year.     

David Supinski and Cole Vlasak had top 5 finishes in the 400 meters. Supinski was third at 50.09 and Vlaasek was fifth at 52.75. Both times are season bests and Supinski's is the ninth fastest in the conference this year.

Peter Simon jumped into the top 20 in the conference with his fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. He crossed the line with a PR of 1:01.49.

Race Heitkamp competed in the 200 and 800 meters and put up season best times in both events. He finished fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 24.82 and came home in 1:57.49 in the 800 meters which is No.11 on the conference top times list this year.

WHAT'S NEXT
Concordia will split their squad over the weekend as they send one group to the Drake Relays on Apr. 29-29. The majority of the team will head west to Jamestown to compete in the Al Cassell Relays held at the University of Jamestown on Saturday, Apr. 30.
