Fast Freshmen And Jumping Veterans

ST. PETER, Minn. (4/16/16)—Fast freshmen and a pair of jumping veterans highlighted Concordia's day in St. Peter. Newcomers Wyatt Lautt and David Supinski posted top 5 finishes in the 100 and 400 meters and veteran athletes Jackson Schepp and Gabe Wright had top 2 finishes in the high jump and 110-meter hurdles at the Lee Krough Gustavus Invitational.

Lautt stepped into the spotlight for the first time in the outdoor season by qualifying for the finals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.27 and then matching that mark in the finals to place fifth. His time is in the top 15 of the conference this year and the fastest by a Cobber athlete since 2011.

Supinski continues to take his first collegiate season in stride. He earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors in the 600 meters in the indoor season and has carried that success to the outdoor campaign.

Supinski had his best finish on Saturday in the 400 meters but also put up a top 7 mark in the 200-meter dash. In the 400 meters he clocked a 51.02 which was good for third place and only .72 of a second behind the event winner. His time is a season best and in the top 15 of the MIAC. Supinski came home in sixth place in the 200 meters. He crossed the line in a time of 23.27 which is also a season best and in the top 15 of the conference.

Schepp, the MIAC heptathlon winner at the conference indoor meet, had a season-best day at the high jump pit. He soared over 6-05.50 to win the event by four inches. His height is tied for the second best mark in the MIAC this season and just .50 of an inch under his career best.

Schepp also came away with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump and placed seventh in the javelin as he continues to train for the decathlon. His best distance of the day in the triple jump was 43-01.50 which is the fourth farthest in the MIAC this season and he topped out at 148-11 in the javelin.     

Wright, who also competed in the long jump, qualified for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.23 and then bettered that mark with a time of 16.12 in the finals. Wright was also 11th in the long jump at 18-09.25.

Matthew Lillehaugen was the top MIAC finisher in the 800 meters at the meet as he continues to get faster and faster as he puts more time behind his injury-filled sophomore season.

Lillehaugen clocked a season-best 1:57.06 and placed third in the event. That time is the seventh fastest in the conference this year and pushes him into the top 20 on the school's all-time list.

Eli Beachy led the Cobber pole vault group at the meet with a second-place finish in the event. He cleared the bar at 14-01.75 which is a season best and the fourth highest in the MIAC this season.

Erik Bye and Alec Boike had the top finishes for CC's thrower contingent. Bye was fifth in the javelin and sixth in the hammer throw. He had a mark of 152-06 in the javelin which is a season best and in the top 10 of the MIAC. His best distance in the hammer was 141-02 which was also a season best.

Boike placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 44-01.50. That is a season best distance by almost three feet. Boike was also 10th in the discus at 106-07.

Concordia will stay close to home for the next two meets. The Cobbers will head across the Red River to compete in the Lyle Hokanson Classic at NDSU on Saturday, Apr. 23 and then host the annual Cobber Twilight Meet on Tuesday, Apr. 26 beginning at 3 p.m.
