Best Indoor Athlete In The MIAC

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (3/04/16)—Jackson Schepp became the first Cobber athlete to win an MIAC Indoor multi-event championship since 2009 as he earned the title of the "MIAC's Best All-Around Athlete" by winning the heptathlon at the MIAC Championship Meet.

Schepp was one of three Cobbers to finish in the top 10 of the event and helps Concordia take the overall team lead after one event at the conference indoor championship meet.

Schepp entered the second day with the lead and didn't back down as he posted the best the best time of any competitor in the 55-meter hurdles and then came away with solid marks in the pole vault and 800 meters.

Schepp finished the MIAC heptathlon with a total of 4,558 points which is a career high and the second highest point total in school history. The last CC athlete to win a conference indoor multi-event championship was . back in 2009 but that was when the MIAC used the pentathlon at the indoor championship meet.

Schepp finished in the top 5 in five of the seven events. He posted a pair of first-place finishes in the 55-meter hurdles and high jump. His highest scoring event was the final event – the 1000 meters where he capped his winning heptathlon with a score of 754 points.

Schepp scored over 700 points in four of the seven events. Besides the 1,000 meters he also put up 700 or more points in the 55-meter hurdles (741), high jump (714), and 55-meter dash (700).

Joe Hendrickson and Gabe Wright were the other two Cobber athletes to finish in the top 10 of the event. Hendrickson put up a total of 4,293 points and placed fifth while Wright was seventh at 4,145 points. Hendrickson's total was 544 points better than his total from last year's MIAC heptathlon when he finished in 10th place.

Hendrickson's highest point total also came in the final event of the competition.  He raced to a 2:48.69 and placed fifth to earn 779 points. Hendrickson also eclipsed the 700-point mark in the 55-meter dash where he ran a 7.002 and came away with 700 points.

Hendrickson had the second longest throw of any athlete in the shot put where he put up a season-bes mark of 39-03.25.

Wright's highest scoring event was the 55-meter hurdles where he ran an 8.57 which gave him 696 points. His top finish among the 18 competitors came in the high jump. He cleared 6-01.50 which was worth 687 points.

Jake Nepstad, Hans-Kristof Brenden, Brett Brenden and Zach Freese also competed in the MIAC heptathlon for the Cobbers. Nepstad finished 13th with 3,551 points ande Nelson was 14th at 3,540. Brenden ended in the No.15 spot with 3,513 points while Freese was 18th at 3,208.
