Johnson And Cobbers Earn National Academic Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/25/14)-- Senior Connor Johnson and Concordia earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national academic honors. Johnson was named to the All-Academic Team and the Cobbers finished in the top 25 of the Division III All-Academic Teams.

It marks the second straight season that Concordia has earned both team and individual USTFCCCA academic honors. The Cobbers have now finished in the top 25 in the nation in team grade point average in consecutive seasons.

Johnson was a standout for the Concordia outdoor track and field team. He finished second in the javelin in the 2014 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Meet. Johnson earned MIAC All-Conference honors for three straight seasons in the javelin and won the league title in in 2012.

Johnson was able to qualify for All-Academic Team by finishing in the top 35 in the vent. His season-best distance of 191-05 was the 27th farthest in the nation this season.    

Johnson majored in biology and chemistry while at Concordia and carried a 3.42 grade point average.
 
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

Concordia finished with a team grade point average of 3.31 and finished 20th on the list of DIII All-Academic Teams. The Cobbers were one of only three teams in the three teams from the MIAC to earn a spot in the top 25 of the DIII list.
