Hendrickson And Wright Are Top 7 At MIAC Decathlon

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/02/14)—Freshman Joe Hendrickson led a group of four Cobber athletes at the MIAC Decathlon at Carleton. Hendrickson came up with a collegiate best total of 5,544 points and finished in sixth place in his first conference outdoor multi-event competition.

Hendrickson was a scant 110 points ahead of teammate Gabe Wright who completed the 10 events with a final score of 5,434 points and placed seventh. It was also Wright's first MIAC decathlon event.

In addition to Hendrickson and Wright's top 7 finishes, Nikolaj Hagen scored 4,544 points and came in 12th place while Hans-Kristof Nelson was 14th with a final total of 4,004 points.

Hendrickson's best events came in the running heats. He scored his most points in the 400 meters when he raced to a career-best 53.21 and scored 673 points. He also topped the 600-point mark in the 100-meter dash (669) and 110-meter hurdles (606). Both of his times in the 100-meter dash (11.91) and 110-meter hurdles (17.18) were also career bests. All told Hendrickson sent PR's in five of the 10 events.

Wright scored over 600 points in four events and had his highest total in the high jump where he cleared a career-best 6-03.50 and scored 731 points. Wright also had 600-plus events in the 100-meter dash (605), 400 meters (628) and 110-meter hurdles (682).

The four multi-event athletes will now join the rest of their teammates in Moorhead when they participate in the Ron Masanz Invite hosted by MSU Moorhead on Saturday, May 3 beginning at 10 a.m.
