Schepp And Vickstrom Shine After School's Out

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/03/14)—Freshman Jackson Schepp loves competing after the end of the school year. A day after final exams ended at Concordia, Schepp posted the top distance in the MIAC in the triple jump at the Ron Masanz Invite. Schepp recorded a career-best distance of 45-03.75 which is the fifth farthest in school history.    

Schepp was a part of the Cobber team which participated in the final event before the MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet. Teammate Ben Vickstrom also shone bright in the post-school spotlight as he tied the school record in the 100-meter dash. Vickstrom sped to a 10.89 and won the event which was littered with NCAA Division I and II athletes. Vickstrom tied the record set by Orea Wright back in 2007. Vickstrom now owns, or is tied for, the school records in the outdoor 100 meters as well as the indoor 60 meters.

Not to be labeled as a "one hit wonders" at the meet, Schepp placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6-02.00 and Vickstrom earned the victory in the 200 meters with a finishing time of 22.10.

Schepp and Vickstrom turned in four of the team's six top 5 finishes at the Masanz Meet. The other two marks were recorded by field athletes Mark Goss and Connor Johnson. Goss cleared 6-02.00 in the high jump and finished in third place while Johnson was fifth in the javelin with a distance of 178-02.

Other top finishers for Concordia included Alex Benzegala in the 200 (7th – 22.72) and 400 meters (9th – 51.06), Ethan Spittle in the 800 meters (8th – 2:03.44), Carl Wahlin in the 1500 meters (7th – 4:14.58), Henry Dobbs in the 5K (7th – 16:23.76) and Cole Young in the javelin (8th – 168-07).

Concordia will now compete in the outdoor conference championship meet on May 9-10 at St. Olaf College.
