Vickstrom And Schepp Ready To Lead At MIAC Meet

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/06/14)—Concordia caps off the indoor season by competing at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet on Mar. 7-8 at St. John's University. The Cobbers are hoping that outstanding individual performances will push them into the top 7 at the meet.

Concordia has had several individuals come up with top 10 marks since the start of January. The biggest impact was made by junior sprinter Ben Vickstrom who broke the school record in both the 60 and 200 meters this season and sites in the top 2 in the conference in both events. His time of 22.38 in the 200 meters is the best in the MIAC this season and a mark of 7.01 in the 60-meter dash has as the No.2 individual entering the championship meet.

Vickstrom is the only Cobber athlete ranked in the top 3 of the conference heading into the weekend. He is joined in the sprints by senior captain Alex Benzegala who is ranked 12th in the 200 meters and 18th in the 400 meters.

The Cobbers have a pair of hurdlers situated in the top 15 in the 60-meter hurdle event. Sophomore Noah Dovre carved out a personal best time of 8.97 two weeks ago at St. John's and is in the No.12 spot in the MIAC. Teammate Jamie Marrier is right behind at 8.98 and is 13th in the MIAC.

Concordia's field contingent is led by freshman Jackson Schepp. Schepp has had a couple of breakout performances this year and is ranked in the top 20 in all three of the jump events. His top seed is in the high jump where he has a season best of 6-04.00 and is ranked sixth. Schepp is also sixth in the triple jump at 42-03.50 and 17th in the long jump.

The Cobbers' top field event to score points should come in the high jump where they have five athletes in the top 10. Besides Schepp, Gabe Wright is ranked fifth at 6-04.25 while Mark Goss is ninth at 6-02.75 and Theo Betting and Nick Anderson are both 10th at 6-02.25.

Josh Murrey and Eddie Clifton will be the carriers of the torch for the always tough CC pole vault crew. Murray has a season-best of height of 14-01.25 and is ranked eighth while Clifton is tied for 11th at 13-09.25.
