Johnson Leads Cobbers At MIAC Decathlon - Again

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (5/03/13)—Concordia senior Brad Johnson's final MIAC decathlon will fall into the "if only" category. Johnson, who was one of two Cobber athletes competing in the conference decathlon posted a no height and finished in eighth place.

Johnson's inability to clear a height in the pole vault cost him a chance to finish in the top 6 of the event. Ironically, Johnson failed to clear a height in the pole vault in the only other decathlon of the season which was also held at St. John's.

Johnson recorded four 600-plus scores at the conference decathlon. His highest scoring events came in all four running competitions. He had his highest point total in the 100-meter dash where he raced to a 11.81 and earned 689 points. He closed out the meet by scoring 633 points in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:47.68. Johnson had the third fastest time off any competitor in the decathlon in the 1500 meters. Johnson's other two 600-plus events were the 100-meter dash and the 110-meter hurdles. His time in the 110-meter hurdles of 16.66 was also the third fastest in the decathlon.

Sophomore Nikolaj Hagen was the other CC athlete to compete in the decathlon. He came away with a final total of 4,570 points and finished in 13th place. That marks a 510-point improvement from last year's MIAC decathlon and he also moved up three places in his finish. Hagen's best event of the two-day meet was the 110-meter hurdles where he ran a 17.60 and scored 563 points.

Johnson and Hagen will now join the rest of the Cobbers as they host the Cobber Classic on Saturday, May 4 beginning at 2:30 p.m. The team will then head to St. Thomas to compete in the MIAC Championship Meet on Friday and Saturday May 10 and 11.
