Cobbers Start Outdoor Season Indoors

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (3/16/13)—Concordia started the outdoor track and field season by heading back indoors and squaring off against St. John's in a dual meet on Saturday. The Cobbers had two event wins and fell 75-49 to the Johnnies.

The two event wins for the Cobbers were posted by senior John Bye and freshman Josh Murrey. Bye ran an 8.84 in the 60-meter hurdles and won the event by .19 of a second. His finishing time is just a mere .01 of a second off his personal best. Murrey was the latest event winner for the Cobber pole vault crew. He cleared 14-06.00 and was the only competitor in the vent to go over 14 feet.

Sophomore Mark Goss won the high jump which was only contested by Concordia athletes. Goss had a finishing height of 6-0.00. Fellow Cobbers Brandon Zylstra, Simon Erlandson and Gabe Wright also cleared 6-00.00 but Goss won the event on misses at lesser heights.

Bruce Shields, Ryan Sederquist and Erik Olson came away with second-place finishes at St. John's. Shields ran a 7.27 in the 60-meter final. That time is a personal best and the fourth fastest in school history. Sederquist clocked a 4:10.89 in the 1500 meters to earn his runner-up finish. The 1500 meters featured 26 athletes. Sederquist's time is a career best and in the top 20 on the school's all-time best list. Olson went over 13-11.75 for a second-place finish in the pole vault.

Concordia will hopefully get outside to start the outdoor season on Mar. 30 when they compete at the Peyton Scoring Meet at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash.
