A Pair Of Top 10 Relay Times
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (4/29/12)— Concordia headed in two different directions over the weekend as they continued their preparation for the MIAC Track and Field Championship Meet. The Cobber relay teams geared up at the Drake Relays while the rest of the squad participated in the Al Cassell Relays held at Jamestown College on Sunday.
The weekend got underway in Des Moines, Iowa at the Drake Relays. The 4x200-meter relay and sprint medley relay teams set the tone for the weekend by putting up times that were on the school's all-time top 10 list. The 4x200-meter quartet of Dustin Britten, Alex Benzegala, Ben Vickstrom and John Bye ran a 1:29.99 on Friday which is the third fastest in Cobber history. Their mark is less than .75 seconds off the school record which was set in 1980. Britten, Vickstrom and Bye then added Brad McConn to come up with another all-time top 10 mark in the sprint medley relay. The group clocked a 3:36.81 which enters them in the No.6 spot.
The two top 10 times for Britten continue a streak of outstanding finishes. Earlier in the week he put up the fastest time in the MIAC in the 110-meter hurdles when he clocked a time of 15.21 at the Cobber Twilight Meet.
The crew that went west to Jamestown was led by freshman Connor Johnson and Levi Bachmeier. Johnson finished fourth in the javelin and seventh in the long jump. Both his ending marks are in the top 15 of the conference this season. He threw the javelin 160-09.00 and had a final distance of 20.10.75 in the long jump. His mark in the javelin is the sixth best in the MIAC this year but it is only his second best of the season. Johnson owns the third farthest javelin mark at 167-10.00. His distance in the long jump is a season best and puts him in the No.13 spot in the conference. Bachmeier cleared a height of 14-02.75 in the pole vault and finished in third place. That mark is a season best and is the 11th best in the MIAC this season.
John Amundson and David Ohmann were the top track finishers at the Jamestown event. Amundson clocked a 2:01.57 in the 800 meters and placed third. Ohmann won the Cobber-only 10,000 meters in a final time of 35:36.20. That is a season best time for Ohmann and currently the 13th best in the conference.
Concordia will now sent their multi-even athletes to compete in the MIAC Decathlon at Carleton on May 3-4 while the rest of the team will participate in the Ron Masanz Invite held at MSU Moorhead on Saturday, May 5.
