A 755-Day Streak Comes To An End

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/19/14)—The Cobbers were finally able to get outside and play a home match on the Concordia campus courts. It marked the first match on campus for the Cobbers since the 2012 season.

Playing in the shadows of the Cobber townhouses, Concordia was unable to crack the stellar play of St. Olaf and lost 9-0. CC remains winless in league play and is now 0-7. The Cobbers are 2-12 in all matches.

The closest doubles match of the day came at the No.2 bout where the blonde-haired duo of Sam Smith and Even Jystad slugged it out with the Oles. The St. Olaf tandem was able to pull away in the end and came away with an 8-5 decision.

All three of the top singles players put together solid efforts but couldn't chalk up a set win. Jesse Schneeberger traded ground strokes throughout his match at No.3 singles and lost 7-5 in the first set. That heartbreaking loss in the opener took the wind out of the sails of Schneeberger and he dropped the second set 6-1.

Zach Zitur scrambled from side to side in his match at No.1 singles and lost 6-3, 6-1. Smith was able to get to the net in his match at No.2 singles but couldn't put away enough volley and lost 6-2, 6-1.

Zach Biggar and Austin Laumb completed the singles play for CC. Biggar lost 6-0, 6-3 in the No.5 spot and Laumb dropped a mirror-reflection 6-3, 6-0 decision at No.6 singles.

Concordia will look for their first league win of the year when they finish off the 2013 campaign by playing at Bethel on Saturday, Apr. 26 and then at St. John's on Sunday, Apr. 27.
