Cobbers Get First Wins Of 2013 In Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/03/13)— Concordia posted wins over Hanover and Alma in their final five matches on their annual Florida Spring Break trip and finished the week-long training trip with a 2-4 overall record.

The Cobbers were led by senior Devin Larson who won four of his six singles matches and also four of his six doubles bouts in Florida. Larson now leads Concordia with five singles and doubles wins. Playing as the team's No.2 singles player, Larson posted three straight wins over opponents from Hanover, Capital and Alma. All three wins were of the straight-set variety. He then finished off the trip by winning in the super-set tie-breaker 6-1, 1-6, 10-7 against his opponent from Augustana (Ill.). Larson is now 5-3 on the season in singles play.

Larson teamed with No.1 singles player Brian Olson to go 4-2 in Florida at No.1 doubles. Like his Larson's singles play, CC's top doubles tandem won four of their last five matches. They recorded 8-6 wins over foes from Hanover and Alma while getting an 8-2 victory in the team's match with capital. Larson and Olson capped their southern swing with a hard-fought 9-7 victory against Augustana.

The other top Cobbers in Florida were freshman Zach Zitur in singles play and the doubles team of Peter Dahlberg and Nick Moe. Zitur won three straight singles matches at No.5 singles on the trip and is now 4-4 on the season. Dahlberg and Moe also won three matches in the Sunshine State as the team's No.2 doubles crew.

Concordia will now return home and concentrate on conference play when they host St. John's at Courts Plus in Fargo on Saturday, Mar. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
