Early Goals Cost Cobbers Against Unbeaten Blugolds

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (9/18/22)---Concordia conceded a pair of goals 8:19 apart in the first 20 minutes of its game at Wis.-Eau Claire and lost 3-0 to the unbeaten Blugolds.

The game was the second of a conference/non-conference away weekend for the Cobbers who started the 2-game stint by beating St. Scholastica 2-1 on Saturday.

The loss drops Concordia's overall record to 2-5-0 on the year. Eau Claire remains perfect at 9-0-0.

The first goal of the game came at the 10:27 mark and proved to be the eventual game-winning goal. The Blugolds were able to double their lead at the 18:46, and the game would stay that way until the 30th minute of the second half. Eau Claire scored the final goal on a penalty kick after the referee deemed that one of the CC players had handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Eau Claire outshot the Cobbers 14-1 in total shots and 6-0 in shots on goal. UWEC held a slight 7-5 advantage in corner kicks for the game.

Mason Weninger had the only shot on the day for the Cobbers, while goalie Erick Torres made three saves. Torres has played every minute of every game for CC this year and has 31 saves which is tied for third in the MIAC.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay in non-conference mode for its next game. The Cobbers will host Colorado College on Friday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m.
