Back-To-Back First Half Goals Prove Too Much In Home Loss

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/10/21)---For the second straight game Concordia conceded back-to-back goals in the first 30 minutes of play against a quality non-conference opponent, couldn't dig out of the hole and lost at home.

The Cobbers gave up two goals in a span of 1:18 just before the 30-minute mark against Wis.-Eau Claire and lost 2-1. The loss is the second straight for CC who has their season record evened at 2-2.

Concordia held the better of the statistical play for the first 20 minutes of the game. The Cobbers held a 4-2 advantage in shots and had a couple of chances inside the penalty area sail wide of the target.

The complexion of the game changed in the 28th minute when the Blugolds were awarded a free kick on the right wing – 20 yards from the end line. The service on the dead ball was played into the penalty spot and one of the Eau Claire players was able to run on to the pass and flick it with his foot into the far, left corner of the net.

Wis.-Eau Claire (2-1-0) doubled their lead at the 29:11 mark on a penalty kick. The Bluegolds were awarded the spot kick after an attacker was tripped on the left side of the penalty area.

The teams went to the break with the score still 2-0, and then Concordia was able to get the all-important "next goal" in the very first minute of the second half. TJ Anderson crossed a ball from the left wing and Evan Bolinske was able to get a touch on the ball and send it to the middle of the goal area. Senior Nate Weaver was unmarked inside the area and was able to bury the ball to bring CC within one at 2-1. Weaver's second goal of the year came at 45:33 and set the stage for a dramatic last half of play.    

Concordia held a 5-2 edge in shots for the remainder of the game, but couldn't come up with the equalizer.

The Cobbers finished the game with a 13-8 advantage in total shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Weaver and defender Matthew Nemer both had a game-high three shots for the game.

CC goalie Erick Torres made one save on the day.
