Cobbers Push Early-Season Win Streak To 2 Behind Vah's Double

SUPERIOR, Wis. (9/04/21)---Concordia never trailed against Wis.-Superior, scored a pair of goals 6-minutes apart in the second half and beat the Yellowjackets 3-1.

The win is the second straight to start the season for the Cobbers. CC hasn't trailed in the 180 minutes this season and has outscored their opponents 6-1 in the second half of play.

The 2-0 start marks the second straight season that Concordia has opened the year with back-to-back victories.

While the Cobbers earned the 2-goal win on the scoreboard, the game featured nine yellow cards and one red card as the referees tried to control the play of both squads. Superior was forced to play a man down when they had a player sent off for a second yellow card in the 75th minute of play.

The teams traded sessions of shots and corner kicks in the first 30 minutes of play. The Cobbers broke on top when senior Nate Weaver played a ball through the back of the Yellowjackets' defense that sprung TJ Seidel on a breakaway. Seidel buried the chance to give Concordia a 1-0 lead at the 41:52 mark. The marker was Seidel's first collegiate goal.

The Cobbers finished the half with a corner kick and a shot by senior Christian Alberti that sailed wide.

Superior tied the game in the third minute of the second half off of a corner kick.

The equalizer kick started the Concordia offense as they put up five shots and had two corner kicks in the next eight minutes of play.

Junior Telvin Vah put his stamp on the game in the span of six minutes. Vah, who led the MIAC in scoring in the spring season and had a 3-point game in the team's opener, notched his second goal of the year at the 60:28 mark. The unassisted strike was Vah's fifth of the spring and falls seasons, and seventh of his career.

Vah's first goal of the game proved to be the game winner.

He would then tack on the insurance tally at 60:28. Seidel finished off his 3-point game by getting the assist on the final goal of the game.

Concordia held a 22-15 advantage in total shots with each team having 11 shots on frame. CC had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

Junior transfer Erick Torres made 10 saves to earn his first win in goal as a Cobber.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will have a quick turnaround to get ready for their next game. Concordia will host perennial power Loras on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. The Duhawks were picked to finish second in the American Rivers Conference and return all 11 starters from the spring season.
