MORRIS, Minn. (9/01/21)---The Andy Kohel era started in fine fashion as Concordia scored four goals in the second half and rolled past Minn.-Morris 5-1 to earn the first-year head coach his opening win for the Cobbers.

The Cobbers had five different players score a goal, netted the first five goals of the game and cruised to their third straight win in a fall season opener.

Junior Telvin Vah continued his scoring tear from the spring as he put the Cobbers on the board in the 33rd minute of play. He was able to find the left corner of the net from just inside the 18-yard box. Nigaba Olivier and Christian Alberti earned the assists on the opening goal of the year for CC.      

The Cobbers held a 1-0 lead at the break and didn't allow a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play.

Newcomer Albara Mutleq doubled the Concordia lead when he finished off a goalmouth scramble in the first minute of the second half. TJ Anderson was given the assist on the goal from the Johnson & Wales transfer.

Concordia blew the game wide open in a span of 2:56 midway through the final period. Nate Weaver started the trio of goals at the 73:48 mark. His unassisted goal was the 22nd of his college career for the Cobbers.

Freshman Mason Weigel and sophomore Michael Matthews gave Concordia a 5-0 lead when they posted goals at 74:36 and 76:44. The goal for Weigel was his first collegiate tally while Matthews earned his second career goal. Vah Had the assist on Weigel's goal to give him a 3-point game while Weigel recorded the helper on Matthews' strike to match the 3-point effort.

Concordia outshot the Cougars 24-3 in the game. The Cobbers held a 9-0 edge in shots on goal. Morris' lone goal came off a deflection from a CC player.

Noah Sahr played the full 90 minutes in goal for Concordia and didn't have to make a save to record his 11th career win.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay on the road to open the 2021 season. The Cobbers will head to Superior, Wis. To take on Wis.-Superior on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 12 p.m.
