Offense Stays Hot In Win In Winona

WINONA, Minn. (4/18/21)---Telvin Vah and Nate Weaver continue to lead a red-hot Cobber offense as the two combined for two goals and two assists in the Cobbers' 3-1 win over St. Mary's.

The victory was the second of the weekend for Concordia and the second where Vah and Weaver played a significant role in the Cobber offense. On Saturday, Vah scored the game-winning goal in OT against Augsburg while Weaver scored the late game-tying marker to set up the extra-session victory. On Sunday, Weaver assisted on the first goal of the game scored by Vah and then Vah returned the favor when Weaver sealed the win in the 85th minute.

Concordia is averaging 2.8 goals per game this spring and has posted at least two goals in four of the five games they have played. They have won all four of those contests.

Vah put the Cobbers up 1-0 in the 14th minute of play after he took a penalty kick. The goalie stopped Vah's spot kick but the rebound went straight to Weaver who played it back to Vah for the easy tap-in goal. The opening score at 13:20 was Vah's third of the year.

Junior Brendan Koplin doubled the Cobber lead just before the halftime break. He netted his second goal of the spring at 39:52 with assists going to Alan Morocho and Michael Matthews. For Morocho it was his first collegiate assist.

Concordia held the better of the play throughout the contest but the game went into dramatic mode in the final 11 minutes of play. St. Mary's was awarded a penalty kick in the 80th minute and was able to convert the spot kick to bring the score to 2-1.

Weaver and Vah made sure the comeback attempt would be stopped with one goal. Weaver was able to come through with his third goal of the weekend when he finished off a pass from Vah at the 84:46 mark.

Concordia held a decisive 15-5 margin in total shots and a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Vah led the way with a game-high five total shots and three shots on frame.

Noah Sahr came through with a huge save in the first half and ended the game with the one total stop. The play of the game came in the 23rd minute of the second half. SMU was awarded their first penalty kick of the game and Sahr proceeded to stop the ensuing kick to keep CC's advantage at two goals.
