A Very Dramatic Double OT Finish

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (11/02/19)---Concordia saved its most dramatic moment for the final 31 seconds of the season.

Sophomore Nate Weaver finished off a rebound from a shot from senior Aronah Mukhtar to give the Cobbers a 1-0 double overtime win at St. Olaf. The goal came in the final minute of the final period of the year.

The win gives Concordia its first winning season since 2010. The Cobbers finish the year with a 9-7-2 overall record and a 3-7-0 mark in the MIAC. St. Olaf, who will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming MIAC playoffs, is now 9-9-0 in all games and 5-5-0 in the conference.  The victory is also the second for the Cobbers this season against a playoff-bound league team.

The win also marks the third straight for the Cobbers in the opening game of the month. CC beat Crown in the opener in September and then downed Hamline in the first game of October.

The two halves in regulation game were a back-and-forth contest with the teams being almost even in the stat sheet. The biggest difference came in the second overtime period with Concordia pressing forward for the win and gaining a 3-0 advantage in shots.

The game-winning goal was made even sweeter because of the fact that Mukhtar was playing in only his third conference game of the year after having to sit out the majority of the season with an illness. The dynamic attacker made his mark all over the field and wouldn't be denied the victory in his final collegiate game.

He set up the game-winning goal by firing a shot in the penalty area in the final minute of the second overtime period. The shot was blocked and caromed to Weaver who slotted home his 10th goal of the season.

Weaver joins teammate Sam Gess as double-digit goal scorers on the year and he becomes only the 11th player in program history to record at least 10 goals in a year.

The goal also upped Weaver's season point total to 26 which is second to Gess' 34 this year and tied for 13th most in school history.

Concordia was outshot by a slim 13-10 margin in total shots and the Oles holding an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.

Mukhtar had a team-high three shots in the game.

Freshman goalie Noah Sahr stopped all eight shots he faced to earn his third shutout of the season.
