Restarts Topple Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/26/19)----Concordia gave up a pair of goals in each half and lost 4-0 to Gustavus.

The Cobbers gave up three of the four goals off restart plays as they fell to 8-6-2 overall. CC is now 2-6-0 in the MIAC. The Gusties earn their fifth straight conference win and are now 13-3-0 in all games and 7-1-0 in league play.

Gustavus started strong and had a shot hit the crossbar in the first minute of play. The Gusties would then score two goals in a span of 2:40 towards the midway point of the first half. The first goal came off of a corner kick. Cobber senior goalie Keith Sullivan made a terrific point-blank save on the initial shot but then Gustavus was able to slam home the game winner from 7 yards out.

The opening goal came at 17:13 and then GAC added a second strike from a throw-in deep in Concordia territory at 19:53.

Concordia fell behind by three goals in the 10th minute of second half. The Gusties earned back-to-back corner kicks and on the second try they were able to head home a goal from inside the 6-yard box at the 54:15 mark.

The final goal came in the last five minutes of the game and came off a deflected shot.

Concordia was outshot 13-6 in total shots for the game and 7-2 in shots on net. The Cobbers had six different players have one shot in the game and were led by Noah Gjesdahl and Patrick Smith who put the shots on goal for CC.

Sullivan finished the game with three saves.

UP NEXT: Concordia will host Augsburg in the final regular season home game on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m. The Auggies are 7-6-3 overall and 2-5-1 in the MIAC and are coming off a 2-0 loss at home against Carleton.
