Sahr Saves Keep Cobbers Close

FARGO, N.D. (10/16/19)---Concordia conceded the only goal of the game in the final 10 minutes of the second half and lost 1-0 to regionally-ranked St. Thomas in a game played at Fargo Shanley HS.

The loss ends the Cobbers' 5-game unbeaten streak. CC is now 8-4-2 overall and 2-4-0 in the MIAC. Concordia has lost three of their four league games by a single goal. The Tommies win for the sixth straight game and is now 7-3-3 in all games and 6-1-0 in conference play.

The game offered contrasting types off offensive play. Concordia dropped back into its own defensive end and defended against the serving passes played into the penalty area and top of the offensive set by St. Thomas. The Cobbers would then generate their offensive chances off the counterattack after drawing UST forward.

Concordia freshman goalie Noah Sahr made several goal-saving stops during the course of the game. His biggest stop of the game came in the 72nd minute when he made a full-extension diving save on a 1-time shot that was labeled for the right corner of the net. Sahr read the play and then made the diving save going to his left.

The Cobbers' best offensive chance came in the second half when sophomore Nate Weaver played the ball over the head of a defender inside the Tommie penalty area and knocked it towards the goal where senior Aronah Mukhtar's header was stopped by the UST goalie.

Concordia was outshot 18-5 in total shots and 10-2 in shots on goal. Sahr finished with eight saves in the game and Sam Gess had a team-high two shots for the Cobber offense.

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to start a new unbeaten streak when they travel to Winona to take on St. Mary's at 1 p.m. The Cardinals are 5-8-0 in all games and a similar 2-4-0 in the MIAC.
