Scoreless Again

STORY LINE: Concordia and Gustavus battled through 71 minutes without scoring a goal but then the Cobbers conceded the only goal of the game and lost 1-0. CC pushed for a game-tying goal in the final minutes of play but wasn't able to find the back of the net and lost for the second straight conference game.

RECORDS: Concordia falls for the second consecutive game after winning two of three. The Cobbers are now 3-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the MIAC. The Gusties improve to 5-1-0 in all games and stay at the top of the league standings with a 2-0-0 record.

CONFERENCE SCORELESS STREAK: Concordia hasn't scored a goal in its first two conference games. The Cobbers entered MIAC play by having scored 11 goals in five non-conference games and hadn't been shut out all year. CC was only blanked in one league game in all of last season.

STAT STUFF: Concordia was outshot 16-7 in total shots and 10-2 in shots on goal. The Gusties also held a 9-3 margin in corner kicks. Junior Noah Gjesdahl led Concordia with a pair of shots and had a left-footed blast go just over the bar from 25 yards out in the 81st minute of play. The other quality chance for CC came from Sam Gess who sped down the right wing and fired a shot that skidded just wide of the left post in the first half. Cobber sophomore goalie Jackson Carr made eight saves in the game while defender Anthony Morrell came up with a huge save to keep CC down by a goal in the 85th minute of play.

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to get back on the scoresheet when they will host Hamline on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 3:30 p.m. The Pipers are 3-2-0 in all games and 0-1-0 and last played on Sept. 12 when they lost 2-0 at home to Macalester.
