Late Goal Sinks Cobbers

ST. PETER, Minn. (9/16/17)--- A goal in the final five minutes of play sent Concordia to its first conference defeat of the season.

The Cobbers conceded the game-winning goal at the 85:52 mark and fell 2-1 at Gustavus.

The loss pushes Concordia's MIAC record to 0-1-1 on the year. CC is 1-4-1 overall. The Gusties even their conference mark at 1-1 and are now 4-3-0 in all games.

Concordia fell behind 1-0 midway through the first half when a Gustavus attacker was able to pounce on a rebound and score the first goal of the game at 22:35.

The score would stay in favor of the Gusties through the remainder of the opening period as the Gusties held the better of the play.

The Cobbers were able to get on track on offense in the second half and they were finally rewarded in the 74th minute when senior Roland Oyou netted his first goal of the season. Oyou pounced on a free ball from a corner kick delivered by junior Justin Froslie and tied the game at 73:47.

Concordia couldn't capitalize on a corner kick or shot by Pierre Freitas-Elysee in the next 10 minutes. The Cobbers looked to be at an advantage after a Gustie player was sent off for his second yellow card at the 84:01 mark.

Gusvtavus then won the game at 85:52 but CC was able to get one maore chance in the game. However a shot by junior Spencer Lancaster's shot was saved by the Gustavus goalie.

Gustavus held a 13-8 edge in total shots. Aronah Mukhtar led the Concordia offense with three shots.

Cobber goalie Jackson Carr stopped six shots.         
    
NEXT UP: Concordia will have little time to rest and recover. The Cobbers host Coe (Iowa) on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 12 p.m. The Kohawks are 2-3 on the season.
