A Quality Recruiting Class
MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/19/17)----Head Coach Ben Schneweis announced the Cobber recruiting class for fall of 2017.
"I'm really pleased with how this class came together," commented Schneweis. "We've addressed specific positional needs within this group and added some tremendously talented players who will compete right away."
The six new players will fit into a team that started eight freshmen or sophomores last year and return 13 players who played in a combined 196 games for the Cobbers.
The six new players have various backgrounds and come from three different states and one country outside the United States. Concordia will welcome two players each from Minnesota and South Dakota, one from North Dakota and finally – one student/athlete from Norway.
"To add the six quality recruits to the core of a great group of players who improved throughout last season is exciting," added Schneweis. "Things are shaping up for a terrific fall season and we cannot wait to get started."
The Cobbers are coming off a six-win season – the most since the 2012 season. Concordia posted non-conference victories over Buena Vista, Wis.-Superior, Minn.-Morris, Northwestern (Minn.) and Coe during the 2016 campaign.
The 2017 season should see an upward swing for Concordia as they return MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention forward/defender Austin Peterson who was second on the team in scoring a year ago. CC also returns top point getter Sam Gess as well as Top 5 scorers Aronah Mukhtar and Jacob Schmidt.
Concordia opens the 2017 season when they travel to Duluth to take on St. Scholastic on Friday, Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. CC will then travel across the Minnesota/Wisconsin border to square off against Wis.-Superior on Sunday, Sept. 3 at noon. The Cobbers will ten return home to host Buena Vista in the home opener on Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. Concordia will begin MIAC play when they host St. John's on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
