One Too Many Snooze Buttons

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (10/15/16)--- Concordia hit the snooze button one too many times for the alarm at the start of their game with St. John's. The Cobbers woke up three minutes late for as they allowed two goals in the first 2:58 and lost 2-0. 

Concordia outshot St. John's for the final 87 minutes of play but was unable to get on the board and the two goals at the start of the game proved to be the winning margin in the game.

St. John's (5-5-3/4-2-1 MIAC) scored in the opening minute of play and then doubled the lead at the 2:58 mark. The opening goal just 31-seconds into the game stunned the Cobbers and then the goal in the third minute allowed the Johnnies to sit back and defend the two-goal lead.

Concordia (4-9-1/0-8-0 MIAC) started to get into the game in the 16th minute of play as Sam Gess put the first shot on target for the Cobbers.

Concordia would continue to press towards the St. John's goal throughout the remainder of the opening half. CC even thought they had pulled to within one goal when Austin Peterson fired a shot into the net but was unfortunately called for offsides.

Both teams had five shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of play with the Cobbers holding a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Cobbers started the second half strong getting two shots in the first three minutes but were never able to break through and get a goal to get to within one and change the pressure of the game.

Concordia outshot St. John's 9-5 in total shots in the second half with both teams having four shots on goal.

The Cobbers held a 17-14 advantage in total shots in the game and both teams had nine shots on goal. The nine shots on target is a season high for Concordia.

Peterson led CC with four total shots. Sage Thornbrugh and Gess had three shots each and Thornbrugh had a team-high two shots on goal.

Concordia goalie Ben Glogoza made seven saves in the 90 minutes of play.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Cobbers will stay on the road and head to Iowa for a non-conference game on Sunday, Oct. 16. Concordia will play at Coe College at 1 p.m. The Cobbers are 4-1-1 in non-conference games this year.
