Fast Start Gives Way To Road Blues

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/24/15)--- Concordia tried to continue their recent success by scoring early and then finishing strong to earn an MIAC victory. Unfortunately a pair of Bethel goals 11:15 in the first half erased the Cobbers' 1-0 lead and pushed CC to a 2-1 loss.

Concordia continues to search for the right answers on the road. The Cobbers are now 0-10 away from home this season. CC is now 3-12 in all games and 2-7 in conference contests. Bethel wins for the third time in the past four games and moves to 6-8-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the MIAC.

The Cobbers broke on to the scoreboard in the fifth minute of play when senior Dami Adegunle notched his second goal of the year after a long throw from Sage Thornbrugh. Nick Koerbitz was able to flick the ball to Adegunle whose goal at 4:55 gave CC an ominous 1-0 lead. Concordia was 3-1 when they scored the first goal of the game heading into Saturday.

Unfortunately the early lead wouldn't last very long as the Royals struck 3:31 later on a corner kick.  An attacker was able to get free from one of the Cobber defenders and his head goal tied the score at 1-1 just 8:26 into the game.

Bethel would add the game-winning goal at the 19:41 mark when a cross was played in to the front post and the lone Royal attacker was allowed to head the ball into the right corner of the net.

Concordia had the majority of play in the second half but couldn't solve the puzzle in the Bethel defensive third of the field. The Royals were able to create chances on the counterattack and came close a couple of times during the final 45 minutes of play.

The Cobbers had several dead ball chances during the second period but was never able to create a clear chance from those opportunities.

The scoresheet had Bethel outshooting Concordia 22-8 for the game with the Royals having a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore Jacob Schmidt had a team-high two shots for CC.

Junior goalie Ben Glogoza made five saves in goal for the Cobbers.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia has three games remaining in the 2015 season. CC will host Minn.-Morris on Sunday, Oct. 25 and then finish off the MIAC slate by hosting Gustavus on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
