First-Half Blues Continue

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/26/15)—Concordia continues to up goals early in the game and goals in bunches in the opening period of play as the Cobbers lost 4-0 to defending MIAC regular-season champion St. Olaf.

Concordia allowed a goal in the first 14 minutes of play and then two more before the end of the first half in falling for the fifth straight game. In that five-game stretch the Cobbers have allowed five goals in the first 15 minutes of play and 10 goals in the first half. CC has been outscored 10-1 in the first period in the past five games.

St. Olaf (4-4-0/3-0-0 MIAC) got on the board in the 14th minute of play on a free kick from the left wing. The ball was played into the Cobber penalty area and the ball bounced free after the initial confrontation. An Ole attacker was left wide open and buried the ball from seven yards out.

The second goal came at 25:38 and was also finished after a dead ball. St. Olaf had a free kick 20 yards inside their own half. The ball was sent long into the CC defensive end and an Ole attacker ran on to the service and played the ball into the net.

The third goal came just before halftime with St. Olaf getting their third on a shot from the top of the penalty area.

Concordia's best opportunities came in the second half. Junior Matt Fulks had his one-time shot from 14 yards out stopped by the Ole goalie and Julian Wilhelm just missed from inside the penalty area.

Concordia was outshot 16-2 in total shots and 12-2 in shots on goal.

Cobber goalie Ben Glogoza stopped eight shots and St. Olaf keeper Ben Braman made two saves.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Cobbers will have a midweek conference game in St. Paul. CC will square off against St. Thomas on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m.
