Early Goal leads To Road Loss

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/25/14)—Concordia was forced to play comeback for all but 33-seconds of the game at Carleton as they gave up a goal in the first minute of play to the Knights. The Cobbers gave up a second goal in the final eight minutes of play and lost 2-0.

The two-goal loss marks the first time in six games that Concordia hasn't won or lost by a single goal. The Cobbers are now 2-3-1 in their last six games and have outscored their opponents 9-8 during that stretch. Carleton, who has only lost once in the last seven games, is now 5-2-1 in the MIAC and 7-6-2 overall.

The story of the game was written in the first minute of play. Carleton was able to gain possession of the ball on the left wing. The Knight attacker then turned the corner on the Cobber defender and was able to reach the end line, seven yards out from goal. He then slotted the ball towards the middle of the Concordia penalty area. His pass threaded its way through several players before it was finally finished off from 12 yards out.

The goal at the 33-second mark put a damper in the Cobbers' early-game energy level but CC was able to recover and wound up only being outshot 2-1 in the first 45 minutes of play.

Concordia made adjustments at halftime and had a couple of chances before the game took one more turn in the Knights' favor. Cobber central defender Nick Koerbitz was shown a red card after his second yellow card offense and CC was forced to play with only 10 men and conceded a late second goal.

The Cobbers were outshot 10-4 for the game. Junior midfielder Dami Adegunle led Concordia with three shots.

Concordia goalie Ben Glogoza made four saves on the day.

The Cobbers will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 28 when they play at Macalester at 7:30 p.m.
