Another More Shots, Less Goals Game

WINONA, Minn. (10/04/14)—Concordia gave up a "career goal" in the first half and then two more strikes in the second and lost 3-1 at St. Mary's.

The Cobbers continue to have to chase the game from "career" shots hit early in the first half. For the third straight game the Cobbers were victims of a laser shot sent into the top shelf of the net. Concordia allowed the first-half hammer on Saturday at the 15:56 mark and had to try and overcome another early-game deficit.

The Cardinals would duplicate the early-half tally in the second period. SMU scored at the 4:36 mark of the final half to take a 2-0 lead.

Concordia was finally able to get on the board in the 72nd minute of play. Luis Martinez poked home a one-time shot from a dead ball service from Justin Flack to cut the deficit to 2-1. It was Martinez' first collegiate goal and Flack's first assist on the year.

Unfortunately for the Cobbers the one-goal margin would be short-lived. SMU put the final goal of the game on the board less than three minutes later. The score by the Cardinals turned the momentum back in their favor and they would go on to post the 3-1 win.

Concordia outshot St. Mary's 8-7 in total shots while the Cardinals held a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.

In the past four games the Cobbers have only been outshot 22-20 but have been outscored 11-2 during that stretch.

Dami Adegunle and Adam Kessler had two shots each to lead the Cobbers.

Concordia goalie Ben Glogoza made two stops in the loss.

Concordia will look to end their slide on Wednesday, Oct. 8 when they host St. Thomas at 4 p.m.
