Sooner Or Later The Dam Is Going To Burst

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/01/14)— The list of famous dams in the world has a new addition. Move over Hoover Dam, Grande Dixence Dam, Dworshak Dam, Inguri Dam and Vajont Dam – the Cobber Dam of 2014 is getting bigger and bigger.

The good news for Concordia is that, continuing with their solid style of play, the dam is going to break and the goals and wins will coming rushing down upon Concordia. The bad news is that the dam held for one more game which led to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Augsburg.

Concordia continues to look for its first win of the season but it's not for lack of effort or ability. The Cobbers continue to harass opponents and create quality chances in every game but can't come up with the game-changing goal as they fall to 0-9.

Concordia has been outscored 8-1 in the last three losses but has only been outshot 15-12 in those games. The three losses have also come at the hands of three of the top 4 teams in the MIAC standings.

Augsburg wins for the second time in the last three games and moves to 3-1-0 in conference play and 4-6-1 overall.

Another early goal forced Concordia to chase the game for a full 80 minutes. Concordia had the best quality chance to start the game. Freshman forward Robert Fordyce was able to shake free from a defender and cut across the top of the box. His big left-footed shot was on frame but unfortunately right at the Augsburg keeper.

The Auggies would strike less than three minutes later on a shot from the top of the box that went over Cobber goalie Ben Glogoza and dipped underneath the cross bar. The strike at 10:07 would be the only quality chance of the first half for Augsburg.

Concordia was able to break free on the wing and had several crossing chances run just out of the reach of an oncoming forward or gobbled up by the Auggie goalie. The Cobbers outshot Augsburg 3-1 in the first half. CC also held a 2-1 edge in shots on goal for the first 45 minutes.

The Cobbers ran out of gas under Augsburg pressure early in the second half. The Auggies were able to convert on a goalmouth scramble in the 62nd minute to go up 2-0.

The teams would only combine for five shots in the final 29 minutes of play. CC had three strikes with the best chance coming off the foot of sophomore midfielder Sage Thronbrugh but his shot from a dead ball was stopped by the falling Auggie goalie.

The Cobbers and Auggies both had six shots in the game and both had two corner kicks. Concordia had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.

Concordia goalie Ben Glogoza made two saves and came up with several outstanding crossing catches.

The Cobbers will try to burst the goal and win dam when they travel to Winona to take on St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
