Air And Breaks Tough To Come By In Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (9/13/14)—A pair of offsides decisions determined the fate of the Cobbers in their non-conference game against Centenary (La.) in Colorado Springs, Colo. On Saturday. Concordia had a game-tying goal called back in the final minutes of play and lost 2-1.

Concordia held a 1-0 lead until the second half before giving up a pair of goals and falling for the fifth time this season. The Cobbers continue to search for their first win and are now 0-5. The Gents are off to their best start of a season since 1997 and move to 3-1.

Concordia junior defender Nick Koerbitz notched his first collegiate goal to give Concordia a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute of play. Koerbitz went forward on a corner kick and was able to head home the service from Joe Thomas at the 31:52 mark.

The Cobbers were able to keep off Centenary off the board for the first half as CC keeper Ben Glogoza stopped two shots in the first 45 minutes of play. The Cobbers were able to outshoot the Gents 10-8 in the first half.

Concordia felt the sting of playing at altitude in the second half. The Cobbers, who only arrived late Friday afternoon, tired down the stretch and gave up the game-winning goal in the 85th minute.

Centenary tied the game at 55:45 on a goal from a shot from seven yards out of goal. The Gents had an attacker standing on the goal line and moved out of the way of Glogoza as the ball went into the net. The potential offsides infraction wasn't called and the goal was allowed to stand.

The Gents went ahead at 84:25 which forced the Cobbers to push more players forward into attack. That set the stage for a frantic five minutes of play.

In the final two minutes of play, Concordia was able to play the ball to freshman forward Robert Fordyce who chipped the ball over the Gents goalie for the apparent game-tying score. Unfortunately for CC, Fordyce was judged to have been in an offsides position before collecting the ball.

The Cobbers were outshot 13-3 in the final 45 minutes of play. The gents had a 21-13 edge in total shots for the game. Glogoza finished with eight saves for the game.

Concordia will finish off its Colorado trip when they play at Colorado College on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
