Cobbers Reach 212 Degrees In Double OT Win

FARGO, N.D. (10/05/13)—Brett Wegleitner's goal with 1:15 left in the second overtime gave the Cobbers a much-needed 2-1 win over St. Mary's in Fargo, N.D. on Saturday. The victory snaps a five-game losing skid and gives CC its first conference win of the season.

Concordia reached 212 degrees, high enough to boil water and power steam engines, when Wegleitner received a ball from the win just outside the Cardinal penalty area. He was able to turn and square his hips to goal and then hammer a shot into the corner of the net. It was Wegleitner's team-leading sixth goal of the season and he has now scored in five of the last seven games. Matt Glogoza and Sage Thornbrugh earned assists on the game-winning goal.

Concordia also set a season milestone in the second half of play. After the teams played through a scoreless first half of play, the Cobbers took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute of play when Kristian Reiersgord headed home a serve from Michael Forston on a free kick from 40 yards out. The lead was  the first of the year during the course of a game for Concordia. For Reiersgord it was his third goal of the year.

The one-goal lead would hold up until the final 10 minutes of play. The Cobbers conceded the equalizer on a quick throw-in that was sent into the CC penalty area and St. Mary's attacker Zach Palma was able to beat the Cobber defense to the ball and poke it into the net.

Concordia outshot St. Mary's 19-8 in the game. The 19 total shots is a conference high for the Cobbers. CC also had a 16-7 edge in shots on goal. The 16 shots on goal is a season high for CC.

CC goalie Peter Runquist stopped six shots to earn his second win of the season.

The Cobbers will now have a week break before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they play at Hamline at 4 p.m.
