Top 3 MIAC Tour Continues

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/28/13)—Concordia gave up a pair of goals less than 10 minutes apart in the second half and lost 2-0 to St. Olaf in Moorhead on Saturday.

The loss continues a string of games against the top 3 teams in the league for the Cobbers. Concordia's first three games in conference play have all been against the teams atop the MIAC standings.

In a game that was played in a steady rain with sloppy field conditions, Concordia once again used their "bend but don't break" attitude on defense to hold the league's top offense in check for the first half of play. The Cobbers were also able to control parts of the first 45 minutes and manufactured a pair of quality chances. The best opportunity came on a dead ball from just outside the St. Olaf penalty area but the ensuing kick sailed just over the cross bar.

The game changed after the first 10 minutes in the second half. The Cobbers came out in the second period and put the Oles on their heels. CC had a shot inside the 6-yard box from senior forward Brett Wegleitner stopped by St. Olaf goalie Ben Braman. The Ole high powered offense then switched into another gear and they were able to get 1-on-1 chances on the CC back line.

The first goal of the game came at 57:15 on a quick turn and shot hammered into the far left corner of the net from Nick Lund. David Rosenthal then finished off a cross from Mackenzie Lund to give St. Olaf a 2-0 lead at the 68:50 mark.

Concordia was outshot 11-4 in the game in overall shots and 13-1 in shots on goal. CC keeper Peter Runquist made 11 saves – several of which were fully extended diving stops.

The Cobbers will continue with their top MIAC tour when they play at fourth-place Augsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.
