Too Big Of A Climb In The Home Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/11/13)—Concordia dug a four-goal hole in the first half, could never climb out and lost 5-1 to Jamestown in the home opener for the Cobbers.

For the third time in the first four games of the year, Concordia conceded a goal in the first 15 minutes of play and was forced to chase the game. The Cobbers have lost all three games they have allowed an early score.

The Jimmies scored in the fourth minute of play when Dominic O'Connor took advantage of a miscue by the Concordia backline and was able to chip the ball over the onrushing keeper and just under the crossbar from 18 yards out.

Jamestown then added to the lead with a goal in the 18th minute. They widened the lead with tallies at 21:10 and then 29:20.

Concordia rallied in the second half and cut into the four-goal deficit with a goal at 51:00. Senior Kristian Reiersgord found himself in the right place at the right time after a Cobber corner kick bounced inside the penalty area and was "pinballed" around in a group of players. Reiersgord latched on to the loose ball and one-timed a shot past the Jamestown goalie. It was Reiersgord's first tally of the season. Brett Wegleitner and Dami Adegunle were credited with the assists on the play.

The teams traded chances for the remainder of the second half before the Jimmies capped the scoring at 85:35. Once again a CC mis-kick in the final 20 yards of play led to a Jimmie goal.

The Cobbers had 10 shots in the game and were led by senior Michael Forston who had three shots. Concordia split the goalkeeping duties for the game. Senior Peter Runquist started the game and made three saves in the first 45 minutes of play. Freshman Ben Glogoza came on in the second half and made four saves.

Concordia will hit the road for a pair of non-conference games as they continue to prepare for the MIAC opener. The Cobbers will play Robert Morris on Friday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. and then square off against Carthage on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
