Bossert Named MIAC Elite 22 Winner

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/23/20)---Junior All-American Tyler Bossert (Fargo, N.D.) was named the winner of the MIAC Elite 22 award for academic excellence in men's hockey.

In all sports with MIAC team postseason tournaments, including hockey, the MIAC Elite 22 Award is presented to the individual with the highest GPA on the active roster at the MIAC playoff championship contest. The recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior and in at least his or her second season of competition with their current team.

Bossert becomes the fourth student/athlete in the Concordia history to earn the award. He joins men's track and field student/athletes David Supinski (2017) and Gabe Wright (2015) and women's soccer standout Marta Prosinski (2014) who received the honor which was started in 2013.

Bossert carries a 3.98 GPA while majoring in Business. He also helped Concordia advance to the championship of the MIAC postseason tournament. The Cobbers finished the year with a 14-11-2 overall record and placed second in the conference standings with a 10-5-1 mark. The 10 league wins are the most since 2013.

The award comes on the heels of Bossert being named to the MIAC All-Conference Team for the second straight season. He led the team in scoring for the second straight year. Bossert put up six goals and 21 assists for 27 overall points in 2020. He now has 17 goals and 49 assists for 66 points in his two seasons in maroon and gold.

The MIAC Elite 22 Award honors the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Modeled after the NCAA Elite 90 Award, the MIAC Elite 22 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average (GPA) in each sport who meets similarly high, sport-specific athletic requirements.

A physical award will be provided to the winners to commemorate their MIAC Elite 22 Award. The Conference also recognizes the honorees on the MIAC Elite 22 Award website, which will archive each of the 22 winners throughout the 2019-20 season.
