Beau Knows Goals

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/24/20)---Beau Wilmer had the first 2-goal game of his career, Tyler Bossert posted a 3-point game and Cam Haugenoe made 26 saves as Concordia beat Hamline 5-3 in the first conference game of the calendar year for the Cobbers.

The Cobbers scored the first two goals in the game and built a 4-1 lead before the Pipers rallied at the end of the second and start of the third before Wilmer sealed the game with his second goal with 26-seconds left in regulation.

The win is the second straight for Concordia which marks the second time this season that CC has won back-to-back games. The Cobbers are now 6-8-2 in all games and 3-3-1 in conference play. Hamline has their 2-game unbeaten streak ended and falls to 3-11-4 in all games and 1-5-3 in the MIAC.

Bossert opened the scoring with his first point of the night when he bagged a power play goal at 3:24 of the opening period. Kyle Siemers continued his recent scoring spree by getting one of the assists on the play. Tanner Okeson also set up the goal to record the first of his two assists on the night.

Wilmer would double the lead 3:32 later when scored an even-strength goal at 6:56. Bossert and Tanner Breidenbach claimed the assists on Wilmer's second goal of the season.

The Pipers would stay close with a power play goal at 12:55 and the teams would skate to the break at 2-1.

Concordia then put up its second 2-goal streak of the game when Eddie Eades scored at 3:24 and Parker Simonson built the lead to 4-1 with a nugget at 15:19. Blake Berg was credited with the assist on Eades goal while Okeson and Aaron Ryback had the helpers on Simonson's second goal of the year.

Hamline put the drama back in the game when they got to within two goal at 4-2 with 3:20 left in the middle period. The Pipers then closed the gap to a single goal in the fifth minute of play in the third when they poached a power play goal at 4:42.

Haugenoe, and Concordia's defense, would shut the door for the final 15 minutes of play. The Cobbers killed off a penalty in the final five minutes of play and limited the HU offense to only four shots on goal in the last 15 minutes.

Wilmer capped the Cobbers' third conference win of the year when he netted an empty-net goal at 19:34 after the Pipers had pulled their goalie just 34-seconds earlier. Bossert finished off his 3-point game with an assist on the finale. Linemate Aaron Herdt was also credited with an assist which extended his scoring streak to 10 games. Herdt now has 13 points on the season.

The Pipers held a slim 29-27 edge in shots on goal. Both teams had 11 shots on goal in the first period and six shots in the third frame. The difference came in the second period where HU outshot CC 12-10.

Haugenoe stopped 26 shots in his second consecutive start. He is now 2-2-1 on the year.

INSIDE STAT INFO: Concordia continued its trend of success when they score at least three goals in a game. The Cobbers are now 6-0-0 on the year when they score more than two goals in a game.

HE LIVES TO GIVE: Junior Tyler Bossert had 28 assists in his All-American season last year. That total led the nation. He started slow this season, recording two helpers in the first five games. Since the Cobbers' win over Hamline in a non-conference game on Nov. 19 Bossert has put up 13 assists and has at least one helper in nine of the past 10 games. He now has 15 assists on the year which is tied for lead in the conference. Bossert leads the Cobbers with 19 points which is second best in the MIAC.

UP NEXT: Concordia will look for the sweep in the series when they teams play the finale on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. The Cobbers are 2-5-0 in games played on a Saturday this season.
