Cobbers Blanked In Series Finale

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/16/19)---After suffering a last-second overtime loss on Friday night, Concordia gave up a goal in the first minute of the series finale on Saturday and fell 5-0 to St. Mary's.

The loss is the third straight for the Cobbers who drops to 1-5-0 overall. CC opens the MIAC season at 0-2-0. The Cardinals are now 2-3-0 in all games and 2-0-0 in conference play.

The momentum from Friday night's game carried over to Saturday for St. Mary's as they scored at the 37-scond mark. The Cardinals added a second goal in the final five minutes of the opening period and took a 2-0 lead into the first break.

SMU held a slight 7-6 edge in shots on goal in the first period and then the teams would be dead even in the final 40 minutes of play but the Cardinals were able to score three more times and come away with the 5-0 win.

Concordia finished with 26 shots on goal as compared to 27 for St. Mary's. Jacen Bracko led the Cobber offense with five shots and Quinn Fuchs added four on goal.

Sophomore goalie Gabe Holum made 22 saves in the game.

Concordia went 0-for-2 on the power play in the game while the Cardinals scored a pair of man-advantage goals and went 2-for-8 on the power play.

The Cobbers are now 1-for-22 on the power play this season.
 
UP NEXT: Concordia will play three games next week. The Cobbers will face Hamline in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 in St. Michael-Albertville and then travel to St. Cloud to play St. John's in a 2-game series on Nov. 22-23.
