Special Teams Bonanza In Finale

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (11/09/19)---It was a special teams bonanza in the series finale with Wis.-River Falls. All five goals that were scored in the game came in non-even strength situations as Concordia fell 4-1 on Saturday.

The Cobbers allowed a pair of power play goals, a shorthanded tally and an empty-net marker and settled for a series split with the Falcons. Concordia is now 1-3-0 on the season while River Falls improves to 3-1-0 for the year.

Concordia gave up a pair of power play goals in the first period in a span of 3:17. The Falcons got on the board at the 10:28 mark and then scored the eventual game winner at 13:45 of the opening period of play.

The Cobbers notched the only goal of the second period – and it came when the teams were using their special teams. Junior All-American Tyler Bossert picked up an unassisted goal while Concordia was killing off one of the three River Falls power play attempts. Bossert scored the shorty at 12:45 of the middle period and the teams would skate into the second intermission at 2-1.

The goal was his second of the weekend and upped his team-leading point total to four points in the team's first four games.

River Falls picked up the all-important insurance goal when they were killing off a penalty in the sixth minute of the third period.

The Falcons would finish off the scoring with an empty-net goal after Concordia had pulled netminder Jacob Stephan at the 18:29 mark.

Concordia was outshot 23-20 in the game. Aaron Herdt, Tanner Okeson and Alex Stoley all had three shots on goal to lead the Cobbers.

Stephan finished with 19 saves in the game.

Concordia went 0-for-3 on the power play as compared to 2-for-3 for River Falls. The Cobbers are now 1-for-17 on the power play this season.
