Back-To-Back 1-Goal Games In Wisconsin

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (1/06/18)---For the second straight night Concordia dropped a one-goal decision in Wisconsin. One night after falling 3-2 at No.5-ranked Wis.-Stevens Point the Cobbers lost 2-1 at Wis.-Eau Claire.

The Cobbers and Blugolds traded power play goals in the first two periods before Eau Claire came away with the game winner at the 3:42 mark of the final frame.

The loss is the third in the last four games for Concordia and drops their overall record to the .500 level. CC is now 6-6-3. The Blugolds earn their second straight win over an MIAC team in 2018 and up their record to 10-6-0.

Eau Claire started the scoring with a power play goal at 15:36 of the first period before Cobber senior Dalton Mills tied the game at 16:16 of the second period. Mills' power play goal was set up by Bryan Kronberger and Joe Burgmeier.

The Blugolds recorded the game-winning goal in the fourth minute of the final period. Concordia would then press for the game-tying goal but could never get a second shot past the UWEC goalie.

The Cobbers had eight shots in the third period and finished with 28 in the game. Concordia had six different players record three shots in the game.

One of the stories in the game was Cobber goalie Jacob Stephan who turned aside a season-high 41 shots.

Both teams were whistled for four penalties in the game. Concordia went 1-for-4 on their power play chances while Eau Claire was 1-for-2. The Cobbers put up five shots on the power play as opposed to four for the Blugolds.

ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER: One goal on the scoreboard has been a lonely number for the Cobbers. Concordia has scored one goal in four games this year and CC is 0-3-1 in those games.

ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER PART 2: Of Concordia's 15 games this year, seven have been decided by a single goal. The Cobbers are 4-3 in those seven games.

NON-CONFERENCE CAPPER: Saturday's game was the final non-conference contest of the year for the Cobbers. Concordia went 3-4-2 in their nine games against non-MIAC opponents.    
 
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will return to Moorhead to host their first home game since November 18. The Cobbers will square off against St. Mary's in a two-game series on Jan. 12-13. The Cardinals are 3-9-2 in all games and 1-4-1 in conference play. SMU is coming off a 6-3 loss at Wis.-Superior on Friday.
