Another Day, Another Honor For Bianchi

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/12/17)---Another day,  another honor for Concordia junior forward Mario Bianchi. A day after being named the MIAC Player of the Week, Bianchi was placed on the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week.

Bianchi was one of three forwards named to the national team of the week and one of only six players to earn the weekly award.

Bianchi becomes the first player to win the D3hockey.com weekly award since the website started the honor in 2015-16.

Bianchi earned both awards after having a career series in the Cobbers' five-point weekend at Hamline. Bianchi recorded seven points to help Concordia earn a win on Friday and then an improbable shootout victory after a 7-7 overtime tie on Saturday.

Bianchi notched a hat trick in the opener as he scored the team's first, fourth and fifth goals in the Cobbers' 5-2 win. On Saturday he had a hand in all four third-period goals as Concordia erased a 7-3 deficit in the final 20 minutes of play.

With the seven points Bianchi takes over the team lead in scoring. He now has five goals and eight assists for 13 points in Concordia's 11 games this year.

Bianchi leads the MIAC in points per game (1.18) and is tied for third in total points. His eight assists is tied for fifth most in the league and his five goals are tied for sixth.

Bianchi will be looking to keep his scoring touch going when the Cobbers play in the Wis.-Superior Showdown on Dec. 29-30. Concordia will square off against host Wis.-Superior on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.
