Third Period Predicament

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/17/17)---Concordia gave up two power play goals and two goals in the third period and lost 3-2 to Bethel in the Cobbers' conference opener.

Concordia led 2-1 heading into the final 13 minutes of the play before allowing an even-strength goal at 8:01 and then another on the power play at 11:01 and lost for the first time in four games. CC is now 2-2-2 overall. Bethel wins for the first all season and moves to 1-7 in all games and 1-3 in league play.

Concordia got on the board first in the first six minutes of play as senior defenseman Bryan Kronberger jumped up into the offensive end and finished off a 2-on-1 rush. Jon Grebosky and Mario Bianchi set up the opening goal of the game.

The Cobbers took a 1-0 lead into the second period after outshooting the Royals 13-9.

Concordia put up another 13 shots in the second period and held another one-goal lead as they traded goals in the second period.

Bethel tied the game at the 13:20 mark and then Blake Berg hammered a 1-timer on the power play to stake CC to a 2-1 lead. Tanner Okeson set up the goal by sliding the puck to Berg at the top of the faceoff circles.

Concordia was unable to find the net in the third period despite the fact they put up 18 shots on goal. The Cobbers had nine shots in the final eight minutes of play after the Royals had taken their first lead of the game.

The Cobbers outshot Bethel 44-28 in the game. Berg and Grebosky led Concordia with six shots each and Okeson added five shots.

CC goalie Sam Nelson made 25 saves in the three periods of play.

The two teams combined for only four penalties in the relatively clean game. Concordia was 1-for-1 on the power play while Bethel went 1-for-3 on the man-advantage situation.
