Unbeaten Streak Reaches Three

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/11/17)---Concordia extended its unbeaten streak to three games as they skated to a 3-3 overtime tie with Wis.-River Falls in the finale of the two-game series.

The Cobbers used a two-goal second period to go 2-0-1 in the last three contests and 2-1-1 in all games this season. The Falcons continue to search for their first win of the season and move to 0-5-1 overall this year.

Jake Ellingson started the scoring for the Cobbers when he scored his first goal of the year at the 8:17 mark of the first period. Quinn Fuchs and Joe Burgmeier set up the score on a nifty passing play inside the Falcon's defensive zone.

River Falls would then score the next two goals in the game to take a 2-1 lead midway through the second period.

The Cobbers would then put together their own two-goal streak to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the second period.

Jon Grebosky tied the game on a goal from in close at the 15:16 mark. Alex Stoley and Zach Doerring were credited with the assists on the game-tying goal. For Stoley it was his first collegiate point.

The game would stay tied at 2-2 until the final minute of the middle period. That's when freshman Kyle Siemers let go a screamer from the blue line to give the Cobbers a 3-2 lead. His nugget at 19:24 was his first collegiate goal and gave Concordia a one-goal lead heading into the third period.

Concordia outshot the Falcons in each of the first two periods but River Falls would turn the tables in the third period. The Falcons put up 13 shots in the final 20 minutes of play which equaled their total from the first two periods combined.

River Falls tied the game at 7:34 when Eddie Matsushima netted his third goal of the contest.

The Cobbers would have a couple of wraparound chances late in the third period and into overtime but were never able to get the game winner.

Concordia had the better of the play in overtime and put up four shots on goal as compared to a single shot for the Falcons.

Concordia outshot River Falls 37-27 for the game. The 37 shots on goal is a season high for the Cobbers. Grebosky led CC with six shots while Ellingson and Siemers had five shots each.

Cobber goalie Jacob Stephan made 24 saves to move his season record to 1-0-2 on the year.

The game was relatively penalty free with only four total penalties whistled. CC didn't have a power play in the game and River Falls was 1-for-2.

WHAT'S NEXT:  Concordia will open up conference play next weekend. The Cobbers will host Bethel on Nov. 17-18. The Royals are 0-7-0 in all games this season and 0-3-0 in the MIAC. They were swept by nationally ranked Augsburg this weekend.
