Playoff Run Earns Multiple MIAC Honors
MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/07/17)---Concordia was rewarded for another playoff season by having six players earn MIAC All-Conference selected honors.
Jon Grebosky, Jordan Krebsbach and Sam Nelson were named to the MIAC All-Conference Team while Garrett Hendrickson and Jeremy Johnson were placed on the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Nelson and Quinn Fuchs were selections to the MIAC All-Rookie Team.
Junior Mark Huneke was the team's nomination for the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team. It is the second straight year that Huneke has garnered a place on the sportsmanship squad.
The Cobber award winners helped Concordia to a 7-7-2 record in league play and a fifth-place finish in the final conference standings. CC earned its fifth straight trip to the MIAC playoffs where they beat Hamline in the quarterfinals before finally losing to St. Thomas 2-1 in the semifinals.
Grebosky is the only repeat conference postseason award winner from 2015-16. It is also his third straight postseason honor as he was named to the All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2014-15.
He was second on the team in scoring in the 16 MIAC games. Grebosky finished conference play with a team-high nine goals and eight assists for 17 points. His nine goals were tied for fifth in the MIAC in league games. He also led the Cobbers in shots on goal in league games with 62. Grebosky had at least one point in 10 games and had a season-high three points on two occasions.
Grebosky also had eight power play points on the season which was third best in the MIAC.
Krebsbach was the leader of the Concordia blueline crew. He also had a career offensive season as he finished with three goals and seven assists for 10 points in the 16 MIAC games. He was tied for third in the league in total points among defensemen. Krebsbach had multiple-point games on three occasions during the league slate.
Nelson was one of the keys to the Cobbers' success during the year as he played beyond his years in goal for Concordia. The freshman netminder appeared in 14 of the 16 conference games and had a 2.84 goals against average.
Nelson made 500 saves in MIAC play which led the league by over 100 stops. He also led the conference in save percentage and was tied for second in wins against MIAC opponents. Nelson made at least 35 saves in nine league games.
Hendrickson earns the fourth conference postseason honor of his career. He was named to the All-Rookie and Honorable Mention teams as a freshman in 2013-14 and also earned MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore in 2014-15.
Hendrickson was a member of the team's top line throughout the season and finished the year with four goals and nine assists for 13 points. His 13 points is one shy of a career high for a conference season. Hendrickson's nine helpers tied for second on the team and he was tied for 12th in that category in the MIAC.
Johnson, who was the team's captain, earns postseason honors for the first time in his career. The team's most clutch performer led the Cobbers in game-winning goals in league play. He had a pair of game-winning nuggets vs. MIAC foes.
Johnson finished the conference season with four goals and nine assists for 13 points. He had at least one point in eight different conference games and had a career-high four-point game against St. Thomas on Feb. 3 in the team's 5-4 win over the Tommies.
Fuchs played in 15 of the 16 conference games and had three goals and five assists for eight points. He was tied for fifth in the MIAC in scoring by a freshman. His five assists were also in the Top 10 of first-year players. Fuchs' hard-nosed style and non-stop work ethic helped him lead the team in plus/minus rating for the conference campaign. Fuchs was a plus-4 for the season.
