Bancroft's A Scoring Beautician

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/10/15)—Less than 24 hours after playing in a game that was a showcase for two-way, high-energy college hockey, Concordia  ground out a 5-1 penalty-filled win over Lawrence (Wis.). Jordie Bancroft netted his first collegiate hat trick as the Cobbers earned their seventh win of the season.

Concordia wins for the second time in the last three games and moves to 7-5-3. The Cobbers close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 5-3-1 mark. Lawrence loses for the fourth straight game and falls to 5-8-1.

The teams combined for 77 minutes in penalties in the three periods. The Cobbers and Vikings were whistled for 29 total penalties. The game slowed to a rush hour crawl in the third period when the referees kept a constant stream of players headed to the penalty box. There were 18 penalties and 55 penalty minutes in the third period alone.

The disjointed play took away from the smooth play of Bancroft who continues to lead the team in scoring. Bancroft's three tallies gives him 12 for the season. He now leads the MIAC in goals scored this year and is tied for second in the nation.

Bancroft's offensive prowess led to Concordia tying their highest offensive output of the year. He had both power play goals as CC scored more than one power play goal for only the second time all season.

Garrett Hendrickson opened the scoring midway through the first period when he snapped off a low wrist shot from the left sideboards that found the lower right corner of the net. Andrew Deters picked up the first of his three assists on the day.

Bancroft then started his goal-scoring spree at the 14:33 when he finished off his first goal on assists from Jordan Krebsbach and Bryan Kronberger.

Lawrence would cut the lead in half when they scored their only goal of the game on a power play at 16:39 of the opening period.

Bancroft's second goal of the game set off the physical play. He netted the first of his two power play tallies at the 1:10 mark of the second frame. Deters and Jeremy Johnson assisted on the goal that reclaimed the two-goal lead for CC. The final assist for Deters gives him 19 points on the year which ties him for the lead in the MIAC.

The third period came to a screeching halt but not before Bancroft scored his third goal of the game at 5:32 of the period. Deters and Johnson once again had the helpers on the man-advantage score.
