Two Each In The Final Two Leads To Series Sweep

BLAINE, Minn. (11/22/14)—Concordia scored the first four goals of its game against Bethel and went on to post a 4-1 win to earn the series sweep over the Royals.

The Cobbers scored a pair of goals in each of the second and third periods as they beat Bethel for the second straight night. Concordia is now 4-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. CC has only lost once in its last five games. The Royals continue their downward slide. BU loses for the sixth straight time after winning its first two games of the year. Bethel is now 2-6-0 in all games and 0-4-0 in the MIAC.

Concordia freshman goalie Alex Reichle continues to excel in the early part of the year. He stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced on the day to earn his third win of the year. He stopped 59 of the 62 shots he faced on the weekend and is now 3-1-0 on the year.

The teams went to the first intermission despite Concordia holding a decided 18-7 edge in shots on goal.

It then took the Cobbers a full 13 minutes of the second period to finally get on the board. CC scored on its 25th shot of the game when Rylan Henley notched his second goal of the year at 13:00. Andrew Deters and Garrett Hendrickson both earned assists on the opening goal of the game. Both Deters and Hendrickson would go on to score goals in the game and Hendrickson would add another assist.

It took the Cobbers 25 shots to score its first goal and then only three shots to double the lead to 2-0. Deters scored his fifth goal of the year at the 15:53 mark. Ben Gislason and Jared Maetche were credited with the assists on the even-strength tally.

Concordia would carry that 2-0 lead into the third period and then double the margin on goals at 6:02 and 13:41. Hendrickson scored the team's third goal of the game at 6:02 and then added an assist on Jordie Bancroft's power play goal with less than seven minutes remaining in the final period. Hendrickson now has a team-leading 12 points on the year while Bancroft's nugget was his team-leading sixth gal of the season. Hendrickson has put up multiple-point games in the last three contests and has at least one point in all but one game this season. Bancroft has a single goal in six of the team's eight goals this year.

Bethel would finish off the scoring with a goal at 17:35 which would end Reichle's bid for his first collegiate shutout. Reichle has not allowed more than two goals in any of his four starts this season.

Concordia outshot Bethel 45-31 in the game and has now outshot its opponents in six straight games. The 45 shots on goal is a season high.

Bancroft had a team-high six shots on goal for CC and leads the team with 36 shots this season.

Concordia was 1-for-4 on the power play on Saturday and scored a single PP goal in each game vs. Bethel. Those two goals stopped a streak of five consecutive games without a power play tally.

Concordia will now head east for the Thanksgiving holiday break. The Cobbers will play in the prestigious PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout hosted by Middlebury , Vt. on Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29.
