A Little R & R Is Just What The Doctor Ordered

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/08/14)—A little "R & R" was just what the doctor ordered for Concordia as they used the goaltending of freshman Alex Reichle and the game-winning goal from Rylan Henley to beat Wis.-Superior 2-1.

The win snaps a two-game losing skid for the Cobbers and evens their early-season record at 2-2. The Yellowjackets drop their second straight 2-1 decision and fall to 2-2 on the season.

Reichle and Rylan stepped into the spotlight after playing supporting roles in Concordia's first three games of the year. Reichle hadn't played in the first three games and was making his first collegiate start while Henley hadn't scored a goal since Dec. 15, 2012.

Reichle stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced to earn his first collegiate win. He made all the average saves during the game and also came up with a couple of big game-saving stops.

Henley, a senior defenseman, entered the game with only two career goals and those came in his freshman and sophomore seasons. He picked the perfect time to end his scoring drought as he notched the game-winner against Superior at the 17:59 mark of the second period.

Neither team was able to break down the other team's defense to get a lot of chances on goal. The two teams only combined for a total of 47 shots in the three periods.

The Cobbers got on the board first when Concordia's Jordie Bancroft scored his third goal of the season at 16:10 of the first period. Andrew Deters and Garrett Hendrickson picked up the assists on the goal.

Superior would tie the game in the fifth minute of the second period. The Yellowjacket scored the only power play goal of the game at 4:41.

The game would stay tied until the final three minutes of the middle frame. Henley scored an unassisted goal at 17:59 to give CC a 2-1 lead – a lead they would never relinquish.

Reichle and the Cobber defense stepped up in the third period and limited Superior to just six shots on goal. The best chance of the final period came when Hendrickson stepped in front of a breakout pass and broke free on a breakaway. Hendrickson was unable to come up with the "insurance" goal as Yellowjacket goalie Corey Simms came up with the big stop.

Concordia outshot Superior 25-22 for the game. The Cobbers have outshot their opponent in the last two games. Bancroft had a team-high five shots in the game and now has a team-high 14 shots for the year.

The Cobbers were 0-for-4 on the power play while Superior went 1-for-5. Concordia is now 2-for-12 on power play chances this season.

Concordia will now head into conference play. The Cobbers will host Gustavus on Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15 in the league opener for both teams.
