Suderman Is MIAC Co-MVP; Three Others Earn Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/10/14)—Caleb Suderman and three other Cobber players capped the MIAC season by earning conference postseason honors. Suderman was named the Co-MVP of the MIAC becoming the first Concordia player since Bryan Howard won the league's top honor in 2000-01.


Jordie Bancroft and Andrew Deters join Suderman on the MIAC All-Conference Team while freshman Garrett Hendrickson earned MIAC All-Rookie Team honors and was also placed on the All-MIAC Honorable Mention Team. Max Smith was the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team .

The four players helped Concordia earn a second consecutive berth in the MIAC playoffs and the third trip to the postseason in the past four seasons. The Cobbers finished MIAC play with a 6-6-4 record and the team was 12-9-5 in all games in 2013-14.

Suderman finished off his four years in maroon and gold by having the best season of his collegiate career. Suderman led the nation in points by a defenseman and was tied for third in the conference in scoring in overall games. The senior blueliner finished the year with 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points. That is the second highest point total ever put up by a Cobber defenseman in a single season and most since Hall of Fame athlete Mark Rice set the record back in 1986-87.

Suderman scored at least one point in 19 of the team's 26 overall games this season. He recorded points in 11 of the 16 conference games and finished with nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in league play. Suderman finishes his brilliant career for the Cobbers having played in 103 games and totaled 73 points. He had 35 goals and 38 assists for Concordia in his four seasons of play. His point total is the most ever by a Cobber defenseman and his 103 total games are the most by any Cobber since the 2002-03 season.

Bancroft was third on the team in scoring in overall games and fourth in conference scoring. He finished with nine goals and 18 assist for 27 overall points while scoring four goals and nine assists for 13 points in conference play. He was tied for seventh in the MIAC in assists in league games. Bancroft had at least one point in 10 of the 16 MIAC games and recorded a season-high three points on two occasions.        

Deters had a tremendous scoring year for the Cobbers.  He was tied for the MIAC lead in points in conference games with 19 and led the league in scoring in overall games with 34. His 34 overall points in the season is the most by a Concordia player since the 1999-00 season. Deters had seven goals and 12 assists in MIAC play and 10 goals and 24 assists in the team's 26 games this season. He was tied for sixth in the nation in total assists and tied for 10th in overall points. Deters had at least one point in 17 games and recorded a team-high 12 multiple-point contests during the year.

Hendrickson came through in the clutch during his first collegiate season. He led the MIAC in scoring by a freshman in overall games and was second in conference games. Hendrickson had 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points in all games and came away with five goals and nine assists in conference play. He had a career-high three goals and four points against Marian on Jan. 10 and put up at least one point in 17 games. Hendrickson had a streak of eight games where he had either a goal or an assist and finished the year by getting a point in 11 of the final 13 games.
